Land Fill Monitoring

The waste disposal site is surrounded by a ring-ditch and along one side by a large canal(note linear feature). Note leachate discharge into the canal, arrow at right and thermal signature associated with large methane leak, center.

Ground Water Recharge

Exactly where groundwater is mixing with surface water is valuable information when trying to evaluate the health of a stream and understanding the hydrology. By identifying the lowest temperature value of water in the image and colorizing data from there up you can get a much better picture of those subtle changes in the surface water temperature.

Arrows point to springs discovered by thermal scanner.

Underground Leaks

Leaks several meters beneath the surface can be detected not apparent to the naked eye or by most conventional means. The scanner can resolve a 0.1deg.C. temperature differance.Bright white areas indicate higher temperatures than surrounding area.

River Discharge

Thermal infrared data (white is warm, black is cool) was collected at night to eliminate the effects of solar heating. Notice the two thermal discharges in the river. The large outfalls were permitted. The two that are highlited by the arrows were unknown by the facility manager.

Multispectral Imaging

Many of the above images were collected using the Daedalus Scanning system. The scanner is capable of several levels of infrared as well as standard visual photography. All images can be geo-referanced for future data analysis and planning.
