DSL is an acronym for Digital Subscriber Line. DSL Internet provides customers with a high-speed connection to the Internet. This broadband connection operates by providing a digital signal over your existing telephone line. It is capable of speeds up to 100 times faster than dial-up!

There are a number of factors that determine if you will be able to get DSL service from Excel.Net. First, this service is only avaiable if you have a standard telephone line. It will not work with cellular phones or other non-standard lines. Second, the phone line must be using AT&T for the local service in order for us to be able to install Excel.Net DSL service on the line. Finally, there are distance limitations of how close you must be to either the telephone companies central office or remote office which has support for our DSL. If you meet the first two requirements, but cannot get service check back with our site. The coverage area is being expanded and you may become available for service in the future.

Yes, DSL service requires that you have a telephone line in your home as the signal is transmitted over the line. Unlike modems though DSL is able to share the same telephone line that you use for making calls, eliminating the need to have a second line for Internet access. You are able to talk on the line at the same time you are using your high-speed DSL service!

DSL service will be a great addition for customers in the coverage areas. However, the biggest limitation is that it the service is not available at all locations. Getting setup for DSL access is quick and simple. Just complete our online form which will make sure your line is capable of supporting DSL service and then take you through the order process. Once that is completed Excel.Net will mail you the installation kit (if ordered) and you will be up and running in no time. Get connected at lightning speeds today!

The requirements for this service are very minimal. For Windows-based computers you will need to be running at least Windows 95. Macintosh systems will need to be running at least System 7.5 for this service. Your computer will need to have either an ethernet adapter or USB port to get connected to the service. In an office environment you will typically order a DSL router which will allow you to connect to the existing LAN and provide DSL service to all of your networked computers!

If you are renting or leasing your location this should not be a problem. DSL service is provided over the existing telephone line you have installed at your location and should not require anything additional to be installed!

After placing your order for DSL service online there is typically a 5-7 day timeframe for the service to be installed. During this time Excel.Net will mail you the installation package (if ordered) so that you can get things setup and ready for the new service. This is only an estimate and Excel.Net will contact you after ordering with the expected installation date for your service.

DSL service is typically very easy to install and get running and therefore the majority of installations are what self installed by the customer. In the event that you are not able to perform self installation of the service Excel.Net can offer installation for you, however additional charges will apply for this service. If you would like to have us perform the installation please let us know so that we can schedule a date/time for this to take place.

Please refer to the instructions which were included in the box for detailed directions on what needs to be done to get your equipment installed and ready for DSL service. Typically the installation requires you to install filters on each of the telephone jacks that share the same number with your DSL service, except for the one where the DSL modem will be plugged into. On the jack where the DSL line is to be installed you will put a splitter that will allow you to connect the DSL modem and still be able to use a telephone in that area. Connect the DSL modem to your computer via ethernet or USB and you are done. Installation is typically quick and easy to accomplish!

DSL access is GREAT for online gaming. DSL provides low latency between your location and our network providing great in game response. A modem connection is usually in the range of 180-200ms, and ISDN is usually only as low as 30-40ms. Of course the server you are connecting with will be a factor as well, but your connection should definitely not cause problems.

One of the great things with a DSL connection is that you do not have to connect! Simply open up your web browser or e-mail program and you will immediately be connected. No more waiting for your system to dial!

There are a number of factors which can affect the speed of your DSL service. Similar to modems, DSL apapters need to sync up with the network. This is an almost instantaneous process, but during that time the modem sets the speed of the connection to provide the greatest reliability. Insuring that you have filters properly installed on all of the jacks sharing access with the DSL is very important. The quality of the wiring inside and outside of your location plays a factor as well as the distance from your location to the telephone central office. Insuring that your computer is free of viruses, spyware and other malicious programs will help as well. Finally, the site that you are going to and its responsiveness plays a factor. The speeds shown for DSL services are the maximum speeds that you will get.

DSL filters are small devices that must be placed on every device sharing the line with your DSL service. It is placed between the wall outlet and the device. It provides a low-pass filter protecting the device from the high frequency used by DSL service. In addition it protects the quality of the DSL signal from the devices. Typically these are installed on phones, fax machines, modem lines and satellite TV systems.

A splitter is installed at the jack where you will be installing the DSL apapter. It allows a single wall jack to be shared by the DSL apapter and a standard phone. It provides filtering for the phone port as described above, while still allowing the DSL signal on the other port. Only one splitter should ever be needed for installation of DSL service.

If you decide that you want to convert your account to the DSL service we will prorate the amount of time that you have used on the annual plan. This will be at a rate of $15.00/month. Any remaining credit will be applied towards the new DSL service.

You will need to inform us if you are moving from your location. We will need to schedule moving the DSL service from the existing location to the new location provided it is capable of getting DSL service. There is a one time charge of $25.00 for moving the service to the new location if you are within the initial service term. If you disconnect service prior to the initial term you will be charged a penalty as stated in the operating agreement.

At this point we are not offering any annual payment plans for DSL service.
