East Troy Electric Railroad Museum Bus Tour- (920) 892-6228
The Plymouth Historical Society is hosting a motor coach/bus trip to the East Troy Electric Railroad Museum on Friday, October 3, 2008. This is an opportunity to ride Interurban Car 26 which was restored in Plymouth and is featured on the downtown Plymouth Mural. The bus will be leaving the Plymouth K-Mart parking lot (Eastern Avenue) at 9:30 a.m. and returning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and includes round trip transportation and unlimited rides on Car 26 and any other operating vehicles at the Museum. Car 26 will run from East Troy Electric Railroad Museum to the Elegant Farmer where you can stay for lunch or shop. Space is limited to call Jim or Peg Stahlman today (920) 892-6228.

Oktoberfest at St. John's
St. John Lutheran School will be hosting a family Oktoberfest on the school grounds from 6 pm - 8:30 pm. Enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, pumpkin carving, face painting, a hay maze, dancing to the music of a DJ, dinner for sale by the Gospel Light singers, and our seventh annual Early Childhood Bake Sale! All proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to Project Angel Hugs, an organization that ministers to the emotional needs of children with cancer and their families. Everyone is invited to attend!

The Sheboygan County Museum invites you to their fish boil. The menu includes cod, vegetables, dessert and beverage. Takeouts are available. Cost includes meal and museum admission. Advanced tickets are $12 ($14 at the door). Food served from 4-7:30 pm in the classroom. Museum complex is comprised of a stately brick building; the 1864 Weinhold Family Homestead; the 1890’s Schuchardt Barn; and the 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory. A recent addition features seasonal displays, temporary exhibits, classroom, and the museum store. "The Right Stuff” Movie - (920) 467-2043
The Aviation Heritage Center will be showing the 1983 classic “The Right Stuff” at 7pm on our 36-foot movie screen. Doors will open at 6:30pm. The movie will be introduced by a local aviation historian who will share interesting facts about the movie. Admission is free. For your comfort, we suggest you bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, but folding chairs will also be available. Snacks will be available for purchase , including freshly popped popcorn, candy and soft drinks. The Right Stuff tells the story of the test pilots who were involved in high-speed aeronautical research as well as those selected to be astronauts for the Mercury program. Rated PG, the movie stars Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Ed Harris and Dennis Quaid.

Death Rituals and Funeral Customs "Third Saturdays"
"Third Saturdays" series are a great way to meet history experts, local history buffs and learn about our local history through displays, presentations, demonstrations, handouts and hands-on activities. Held at the Sheboygan County Museum, the "Third Saturdays" series is held from 10-3 pm. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children (7-12 years). Children aged 6 years and under are free. Learn about the origins of American Halloween customs, play seasonal games of the period, enjoy hot cider in the stagecoach inn, take a two mile open-air, horse-drawn wagon ride, carve pumpkins and turnips, and listen to classic renditions of scary (but family-friendly) stories in the candlelit sawmill at the Wade House. Join us for a "spooktacular" display of carved and painted pumpkins on lit trails through the "haunted" woods. Feeling creative? You can display your own pumpkin on the walk! All you have to do is drop your pumpkin off before 5 pm on Oct 18 at Weinbauer's garage, (W7571 Plank Road, Greenbush). The walk is handicapped accessible. It will be held from dusk till 11pm on Saturday and dusk till 10 pm on Sunday. Treats to share are welcome and optional. Donations appreciated. Non-perishable food items or cash donations accepted. Food will be donated to the Plymouth Food Pantry. Cash donations will benefit Samuel O'Connor (7 month old with Microvillus Inclusion Disease) and Lieym Bovee (1 1/2 year old with Neuroblastoma Cancer). Volunteers are needed. Musicians and listeners are invited to the Plymouth Arts Center for their Open Mic Jams. The event is free and open to the public. From 6pm until 7:00, players mingle and join in other groups, or practice for a performance slot later. At 7:00, people generally take seats and enjoy the instrumentals or songs presented by whoever has signed up to share up to 3 selections. There is usually an intermission about halfway through during which time you can talk with the musicians or fellow listeners and have some refreshments. (Coffee, sodas, and some treats are provided by the hosts, and additional munchies are brought by people attending if they’d like to.) The Open Mic often runs until 10 or 10:30, depending upon the number who sign up and the duration of their sessions. It’s wholesome family entertainment. No alcohol, no smoking.

St. John the Baptist, located at the "top of the hill" in Plymouth, will be once again hosting the Annual Christian Women Holiday Craft Fair. What a great opportunity to find handmade crafts and other special gifts! Pick up fresh baked goodies. Take a chance at the silent auction and raffle. Rarely does anyone leave empty handed at the popular fair. A delicious lunch will be available.

Vintage 1940's Hangar Dinner, Dance and Silent Auction
Tickets for the event are $50 per person. The event will be held at the Aviation Heritage Center of Sheboygan County. The evening begins with a cocktail hour from 5-6pm, dinner at 6pm featuring 1940's fare, to be followed by a quick dance lesson at 7:30pm. Our featured entertainment is “Bob Hope” as portrayed by Lynn Roberts and the 20-piece band, Jazz Express. Period attire is encouraged, but not mandatory. We’ll have a great USO-style show! Wisconsin native playwright, screenwriter, and film producer Dick Grunert has written this play especially for Plymouth High School. Audiences will laugh hysterically as they recognize many universal conflicts and dilemmas the teenage characters endure during the evening at the dance. The show also includes several dance numbers choreographed to popular teen music, as well as to a few oldies. In addition to the above students, the large cast is made up of over 80 members on stage and almost as many students who work backstage. "Scenes From a Dance" premieres at Plymouth High School on November 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm. Additional performances will be held November 7 and November 8 at 7:30 pm. A matinee will be performed on November 9 at 2:00 pm. General admission tickets are $5 and will be available at the Plymouth High School office by the end of October.

The Chili Cookoff, held from 4-7 pm, will give shoppers the chance to taste-test and vote for their favorite chili. The highlight of Holiday Gathering is the Santa Parade, held at 7pm. The parade begins at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Main Street, going west to Caroline Street, Caroline Street south to Mill Street, then east on Mill to North Street and back to Main Street. Day 1 - Santa Steam Train Special - (920) 892-6921
A travel day for Santa and his steam train. The train should steam into Plymouth after 5 pm. Plan to be at the depot to greet its arrival from the south. Some local switching will take place and then the train will be placed on display along with one of Wisconsin & Southern's diesel locomotives. Watch the locomotive crew members service the SOO LINE # 1003 and bed her down for the night. Flood lights will light up the train as it spends part of the night resting at the station. Come back on Saturday for additional fun. Plymouth will be the only location on the North American Continent where an actual steam train will be operating this weekend on an active commercial railroad. You do not want to miss the exciting arrival of the Santa Steam Train. It will be steaming into Plymouth from the north at exactly 8 am. Plan to be impressed, with the coal smoke and steam mixing with the cool December air. Whistles will be blowing and bells ringing. Children will be in line waiting for their chance to sit on Santa's lap in his restored ribside Milwaukee Road Caboose. Heated of course with a coal burning stove! Santa visits will run from 8 am until 4 pm. Plymouth will be the only location on the North American Continent where an actual steam train will be operating this weekend on an active commercial railroad. Day 3 - Santa Steam Train Special - (920) 892-6921
The entire Santa Steam Train will be backed to a point approximately one mile north of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This point is seven miles north of Plymouth. The steam train will then begin a 60 mile long photo runby starting with Elkhart Lake at 8 am. This will be the first time in 55 years that a steam train has passed through this resort community. The train will continue steaming south through Plymouth, Waldo, Adell, Random Lake, Fredonia, Saukville, Grafton, Cedarburg and on into Milwaukee. There are numerous locations to get that perfect action shot of the Santa Steam Train passing by. Sponsors include Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, Sargento Cheese, 1003 Operations,LLC, City of Plymouth, Plymouth Historical Society, Plymouth Model Railroad Club, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Thrivent Financial.

In what has become the biggest and best Civil War re-enactment in Wisconsin, Confederate and Union armies set up camp on the sprawling, wooded grounds of Wade House.
