Holiday Gathering & Christmas Parade - November 28
The Downtown Business Association (DBA) of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce invites you to the the 13th annual Holiday Gathering. The annual Chili Cook-off will be held from 4-7 pm to give parade-goers an opportunity to taste test, vote for and purchase their favorite chili. The Christmas Parade will be held at 7 pm (always the Friday after Thanksgiving).

Christmas Parade
The nighttime-lighted Christmas parade will include local organizations, bands, choral groups, businesses, equestrian units and much more! Back by popular demand will be the “Wacky Wheel." This large rolling wheel has been a Parade pleaser for the past two years and is made possible by the sponsorship of Master Gallery Foods. Selected as this year’s Grand Marshall is Ruth Haucke.

Parade Seats - Bidding Has Begun
Exchange Bank Coffeehouse is offering to the two highest bidders, three seats at our coveted front window counter overlooking Mill Street to watch the Holiday Parade.  Bids can be placed in our Bid Bag. All proceeds benefit Project Angel Hugs, a local organization that helps children with cancer and their families. Bidding ends November 25, 2008. 

"Letters to Santa” Contest
Children grades kindergarten through fourth will be able to enter this contest by completing the entry form and mailing their letter to Santa at participating downtown businesses through November 14. The winner and a guest will ride with Santa in the parade. Letters will be accepted through the holiday season, but only those received by the deadline with be entered into the contest. All letters will receive a reply from Santa.

Be sure to notice the inside window decorating and outdoor pine garland accents of many of the downtown businesses in an effort to give downtown Plymouth a “festive” look this holiday season!

Santa Steam Train Returns - December 12, 13 and 14
Santa Steam TrainSanta's Steam Train will be back in Plymouth! The passenger train will be pulled by restored SOO LINE steam locomotive # 1003. This is a Mikado, ( 2-8-2) built in 1913 by American Locomotive Works. Special cars in the train will include a restored Milwaukee Road ribside caboose and a special box car painted by the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad to commemorate the City of Plymouth, Sargento Cheese and the Santa Event. Plymouth is the only location on the North American Continent where an actual steam train will be operating this weekend on an active commercial railroad. Event is free. Santa to help out US Postal Service - December 13

Have your mail cancelled with a special commemorative postmark aboard the Santa Steam Train.  An official satellite Post Office will be operating on December 13 at the Santa Steam Train Event. Postal Officials will be manning this car on Sunday, December 14, as the mail moves from Plymouth to Hartford, Wisconsin. Or drop your mail off at the Plymouth Historical Society. They have received authorization to collect mail on behalf of the Postal Service and hold it until December 13. Any mail dropped off at the Historical Society will NOT BE MAILED until December 13. On December 13 this mail will received the special commemorative cancellation. On Sunday December 14 the mail will be loaded onto the Santa Steam Train and travel by rail to Hartford, Wisconsin.

The Plymouth Historical Society will be open 10-2pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until December 14. Mail can dropped off during those hours. If special arrangements need to be made please contact Vi Feldmann at (920) 892-4784 or (920) 912-2389. The Historical Society will also be offering a special Seasons Greeting stamp which they can apply to your Christmas mail. Ask for details when you visit the museum.


Sargento Cheese TrainSargento Cheese Model Box Car
Athearn Trains will be producing HO scale models of this unique Sargento Cheese box car. Artwork used for the model will be the artwork used to produce the prototype car which will be 100% accurate right down to the actual car number. The fully-assembled model features McHenry scale knuckle spring couplers, separately applied grabirons, ladders, stirrup steps, brake wheel, brake stand and underbody details, perfect for small home layouts, RP25 profile machined 33" metal wheel sets, weighted for optimum performance. Cost of model car is $18.98. Model is available for purchase at the Santa Train event. All profits from the sale of the models will be used to help fund this event.

This model box car will be available for purchase AFTER the Santa Steam Train event. This is a limited production. Caboose Makes Home in Plymouth
Caboose C-176 was moved from its home at the Reeve Park in Waunakee and taken to its new home in Plymouth. The yellow caboose was purchased by the Plymouth Historical Society who plans to restore the 99 year-old caboose and put it on display for all to see. View article.


Plymouth Cooks
Be sure to tune into a 10-part series called "Plymouth Cooks" hosted by Richard J. Baumann airing on Plymouth Community Television 14 . Each 30-minute show features some of Plymouth's best known business and professional persons as guest cooks preparing their favorite recipes. The series will be aired Mondays, beginning on September 8 at 9 am and 9 pm, as well as every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm. View Sheboygan Press article.

Chamber Dollars
The Chamber Dollars gift certificate program is designed to keep the retail and service dollars in the Plymouth area and, specifically with Chamber members. Chamber Dollars are the all-purpose gift that promotes Plymouth businesses. Certificates are available in denominations of $5, $10 and $20 at the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Office, 647 Walton Drive from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. We now have more than 90 Chamber member businesses participating in this program which means greater flexibility for certificate holders! A list of Chamber member businesses participating in the program is included with all Plymouth Chamber Dollars purchased. Pictorial Book on Plymouth Now Available!
Fascinating tidbits and more than 200 additional short, descriptive narratives accompany old-time photos in the newly published, 128-page paperback, titled “Images of America: Plymouth.” A treasure trove for history buffs, this book spans 160 years of Plymouth’s history, from 1845, with the construction of the Cold Spring House, a log inn and tavern – to 2005, with the dedication of Veterans Memorial Trail.

“Images of America: Plymouth” is available for $19.99 through the Plymouth Historical Society and the local bookstore Book Heads, 216 E. Mill St., Plymouth or at regional and local bookstores.

A collaborative project of two non-profit organizations – the Plymouth Historical Society and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, this book is the first pictorial history book exclusively about Plymouth, Wisconsin. Profits from the book sales by the two non-profit organizations will be used as a fundraiser for their operational expenses. Proceeds from sales through those two organizations remain with the individual organizations that sold the books.
