What is web-based email?
What do you mean when you say 'your email that's on our server'?
You said 'regular email client (Outlook Express, etc)'. Isn't the web-based email my new mail program now?
But...but but...what is the purpose of the web-based email then?
So...I can keep using my regular email program when I'm at my computer, and use the web-based email when i'm not?
Do you have any witty analogies to help me understand this whole web-based email thing better?
That was pretty good. Thanks.
Using Web-Based Email

So...the web-based email is completely separate from my regular email program?
I used the web-based email and read the messages. Then I got my mail with my regular email program like I usually do. Now, the messages in the web-based email are gone!

Q
- What is web-based email?
Web-based email is a way for you to access your email that's on our server from any web browser anywhere in the world!
Q
- What do you mean when you say 'your email that's on our server'?
The web-based email client lets you see the mail that's in your mailbox on our server. This is the email that you haven't retrieved with your regular email client (Outlook Express, etc) yet.
Q
- You said 'regular email client (Outlook Express, etc)'. Isn't the web-based email my new mail program now?
The web-based email is not intended to replace the email program you normally use. If you like your regular email program (Outlook Express, etc), keep using it!
Q
- But...but but...what is the purpose of the web-based email then?
The web-based email is designed to suppliment your regular email program. If you travel and do not have access to your own computer, you can use any other computer in the world to read the email that has been sent to you since you've been away!
Q
- So...I can keep using my regular email program when I'm at my computer, and use the web-based email when i'm not?
Correct.
Q
- Do you have any witty analogies to help me understand this whole web-based email thing better?
We're glad you asked. Think of it like this (forgetting computers for a moment)...
Let's say you've gone on a two-week vacation. You *might* receive something important in your regular US mail (besides Ed McMahon's face), so you have a friend pick up your mail at your house for you. Occasionally, you call your friend and ask them what mail you've received. Once your back home, you can go get your mail from your friend.
Ok, now, back to computers. Think of our web-based email as your 'friend' who can help you access your mail while you're away. You can call upon your friend (open the web-based email) to help you read your mail while you're gone. Once your back home, you can retrieve your mail (with your regular email program) like you normally would.
You don't have to depend on your friend to get your US mail once you're home, right? Well, you don't have to depend on our web-based email to get your mail when you're home, either.
Q
- That was pretty good. Thanks.
No prob.
Using Web-Based Email
Q
- When I enter the web-based email, all of my old messages and address book entries are gone...and it looks totally different than my old email!
The web-based email can only access the messages you haven't downloaded with your regular email program yet. It cannot access the email that you've already downloaded to your regular email program, or access it's Address Book.
Q
- So...the web-based email is completely separate from my regular email program?
Correct.
Q
- I used the web-based email and read the messages. Then I got my mail with my regular email program like I usually do. Now, the messages in the web-based email are gone!
Right. The messages you saw in the web-based email are the messages you had not downloaded with your regular email program yet. When you retrieve your email with your regular email program, the messages are removed from your mailbox on our server. Therefore, there are no messages for the web-based email to display (until you receive more email, of course).
Q
- How can I sort my messages into different folders in the web-based email, or add addresses to an address book, or print my messages, or change the colors, or...
We may add some of these features to our web-based email client at some point. At the moment, however, they are absent.
